Famine in Flames
Day 6

FAMINE IN FLAMES - DAY 6

Famine awoke to a changed universe. The creation of Unforgiven
Cartel, and their entry into a war on The Space Marines, had rattled
the already shaky denizens of Famine as the war continues to
spread.

Lost in the glare of the Willow-TSM/Anla conflict, other smaller fights
have been taking place. The United Federation of Planets and The
Unforgiven had been sparring for some time. Evidently, this has
carried over to the new UC.

#579

Rumors abound in Famine, but some of the more credible touch on
this fight. It is rumored that at one point UFP and Anla'shok were
discussing a joint operation against The Unforgiven. This apparently
never came to pass, perhaps because of the Anla declaration on
Willow. It is also rumored that, despite the Marine/Anla MDP,
Unforgiven Cartel and Anla'shok are currently eyeing each other
warily, but have not entered into open hostilities. This leaves a
curious situation. UFP is evidently a collateral ally of the Marines in the
war on Unforgiven Cartel, while the Marines and Anla'shok continue
to jointly face Willow, a known friend of UFP, this afternoon's kill in
Alskant notwithstanding. Willow/UC relations are even murkier, if that
is possible, and only add to the confusion.

But the political twists do not stop the war. The first blood of the
main event was drawn about noon. This kill is shrouded in mystery.
Rat Fighter has not been seen since, and it is rumored he was not
online at the time. We will provide details as they become available.

3/29/99 12:07:08 PM zaphron(AS) killed Rat-Fighter(Willow) in
sector #646

Also unclear is the status of the Alskant Galaxy. Before the eruption
of the war, Willow had been patrolling Alskant to enforce the free
trade rules. These included a ban on Attack Ratings over 4, unless
cleared through Alskant space by Willow Traffic Controllers prior to
entry. Subsequent to the TSM/ANLA simultaneous declaration of war
on Willow, Rat Fighter posted a warning to all traders that they could
no longer guarantee the safety of Alskant for traders. Apparently,
they are still trying. We are awaiting official word on the current
Alskant policy.

3/29/99 1:59:11 PM Ughly(Willow) killed leviathan(SFA) in sector
#92

The Marines have not forgotten the intentions of DarkShade, who
planned to enter the war against the Marines until they were
devastated by an attack by now UC members. Whether DarkShade
still considers themselves active combatants is unclear, but the
Marines apparently take no chances.

3/29/99 8:25:12 PM CyrixNG(SM) killed Spacers(DS) in sector #657

After a day of relative calm, with more spectator value than actual
fighting, the combatants emerged in the evening, to again fan the
flames in Famine.

The Marines moved into WQ human with a planetary assault force.
They were met by UC forces, and repulsed with minor losses. Except,
in as much as a very days ago rivers was a top ten trader. The wars
have not been kind to highly ranked players who ventured out to
fight.

3/29/99 9:07:32 PM Demo(UC) killed rivers(SM) in sector #680

Then, more twists. Already at possible war with UC, Star Fleet
Academy, trainees of the United Federation of Planets, attacked the
Marines. They now may face a two front war, against two powerful
enemies, already at war with each other. Whatever you say about
UFP, they do not run from a fight. They have stated their intentions
to claim a galaxy in Famine and seem determined to make a splash
on the scene, regardless of the advantages either of their possible
rivals may hold.

3/29/99 10:08:26 PM BoBaFeTT(SFA) killed DeathWing(SM) in
sector #658

And clearly, one of the advantages the Marines hold is a group of
efficient hunters, even if some are on loan from Anla'shok.

3/29/99 10:18:13 PM God_Imes(SM) killed BoBaFeTT(SFA) in
sector #687

Meanwhile, both Willow and UC took the offensive. UC remained in
WQ where they had disrupted the marine attack, and reduced a
planet there.

Willow returned to Creonti, and caught two more Marines (actually
Anla'shok on loan) asleep

3/29/99 11:28:57 PM Java(Willow) killed God_Imes(SM) while
invading a planet in sector #185
3/29/99 11:28:58 PM Java(Willow) killed Sir_Justice(SM) while
invading a planet in sector #185

Innocents die in war too, especially innocents who don't have or
don't know how to use a scanner in a combat zone.

3/30/99 12:36:23 AM CLxyz(Universal Soldiers) was killed by forces
owned by neo-Sufeki(UC) in Sector #680

The Willow fighters, exhausted after days of brutal trench warfare
against the Marines, appeared satisfied with the latest in their
impressive series of planet kills, and fell back.

But the Marines had no such luxury, UC was fresh and ready for
battle. They drove into Livstar, the Marine home galaxy and laid siege
to a planet. The Marines countered.

3/30/99 12:38:02 AM neo-Sufeki(UC) killed Lord Wolf1(SM) in
sector #1130

But they were unable to halt the assault. Only another of the
mysterious Area 51 like effects, becoming so common in this huge
conflict, prevented UC from claiming another prize.

Frustrated, they turned to another Marine planet.

3/30/99 1:34:05 AM Demo(UC) killed Armageddon(SM) while
invading a planet in sector #1140

And met with greater success.

They then continued their advance, claiming one more unoccupied
Livstar planet.

As the victorious UC fleet headed home, the day fittingly ended as it
began.

3/30/99 3:52:21 AM Dude Man(UC) killed Black Thorn(UFP) in
sector #657

Though slightly less bloody than previous days, the war shows no
sign of slowing. The Marines face a tactical dilemma, and all parties
face a confused and convoluted political scene. Famine, the Universe
in Flames, smolders on.
